"Lonesome Mel" who has been in the music business for quite a few years put together this unique group of local musicians a few years ago for the annual Port Gibson Main Street Heritage Festival. The group plays the Sunday afternoon following the Heritage Festival on the front porch of Isabella Person's home on Church Street. That is if the weather permits! Over the years the group has had members come and go, but there is never a lack of good times & good music. This years group was by far the biggest yet, bringing members from other bands together to pool their talents.
The members are: Front row: Merrie Mac Drake (vocals), kneeling left to right: Dan Brock (lead guitar & vocals), Kathi Dodgen (backup vocals), Charlie Doherty (vocals, mandolin, & guitar), Ruth Ann Drake (backup vocals), Linda Moore (backup vocals), Danial Boone (drums). Standing left to right: Lee H. Abraham (vocals & percussion), Larry Davis (vocals, guitar, mandolin), Dave Gibson (guitar), Bob Bernard (banjo), Ted Holman (fiddle, peddle steel, & lead guitar), George Hudson (vocals, keyboards), Parham Watkins (bass guitar), and Melvin "Lonesome Mel" McFatter (boss, vocals, harmonica, & guitar)
If you didn't get out this year to see this unique group please make an effort to catch them in the future. You don't know what you're missing!
